Dune 2: The Building of a Dynasty

Dune 2 is possibly one of the best strategy games ever created. By today’s standards the graphics may be described as weak, but back in the early 90s this was hot stuff. Players of the first Dune game may be surprised on how different Dune 2 is compared to the first game. Dune 2 takes on entirely new game style, instead of being point and click like the original game; Dune 2 is pure combat strategy. Its not turn based either....everything runs in a real-time environment with a top-down view. The best way I could describe the graphics would be SIMcity graphics on steroids. The music is a sci-fi-like Sound Blaster MIDI sound track; the sound effects are very good and even include speech.

The storyline is introduced in a simply stunning opening intro when you start the game. Apparently the emperor is tired of all of the fighting on Dune, so he offers a challenge to settle things once and for all. The 3 "houses" of Atreides, Ordos, and Harkonnen must fight, and whoever obtains the most spice will gain ultimate control of Dune. The interesting part is that all 3 of the houses are playable and have different units and skills....In addition to that whatever house you choose alters the plot!

When you finally get to the actual game you will find that it quite easy to play, even for someone who has never played a strategy game before. Once you find yourself familiar with how the game works, keep your eye on the clock because you may find yourself playing longer than you expected! The game play is not monotonous either, because as the game progresses, and you conquer more area you will gain different units and buildings.

Overall Dune 2 is possibly of the best games of this century...So I urge you do what you must to obtain this game! If you are a fan of strategy games some fun is still to be had here.
