Went and saw it yesterday with the current GF. Anyone else seen it yet? Be warned, if you haven't read the Graphic Novel, my thoughts contain spoilers.
My thoughts==
1) Snyder stuck closely to the original material, which earns him points. Too many people try to put their own spin on the source material and end up ruining it or making many loyal fanboys VERY pissed off. (You hear me Uwe??)
2)The movie itself was a mixed bag. Even with the fact that it was about 20 minutes too long, there were around 5 too many shots of Dr. Manhattan's giant glowing CG dong (put some fucking pants on, blue boy!). and my number 3 point which i'll get to shortly, I still enjoyed the movie. The opening death scene for the Commedian was nicely done, as was the prison scene with Rorschach... hell, that prison scene housed the second best quote of the movie. "I'm not stuck in here with you, YOU'RE stuck in here with ME!" before giving a midget a very bloody swirlie... Still, #3 damn near ruined the movie.
3) The MUSIC. Snyder.... I could kill you over that. You have a music producer for a REASON. I understand you were trying to make a point about the current state of comic book movies and the industry in general, but.....damn. You came VERY close to ruining this movie. The most egregious offense? The music played during Night Owl and Silk Spectre's sex scene was a true WTF??? moment. Not going to spoil it for those of you that haven't seen the movie, but.... if you can keep from laughing out loud at it while in the theatre, you're a better man than me.
4)On the bright side, the CG effects were well done (aside from the aforementioned dong shots,) especially Dr. M's refuge on Mars (the floating clock.)
Final note. Snyder.... you get a pass. You stayed to the spirit of the book, even with your douchebaggery in the music department. At least the movie FINALLY got made.

Ah, watchmen. Co-creator Alan Moore refused to be credited on the movie. After Van Helsing(i think) and V for Vendetta, he was sick of it. At one point Terry Gilliam was going to direct Watchmen. He asked Alan Moore how to do it. Alan Moore said "don't". Very complicated story, difficult to translate to movie. The problem is that Snyder is a fanboy. He loves it too much. The Shining is a good movie because Kubrick doesn't stick to the source material.Almost. Read the comic instead or watch v for vendetta

Not that bad??? The "Hallelujah" thing's become a running joke for us over it. On a side note- A "fan boy" for director is infinitely preferable to a "script virgin" I'd rather they put too much in than try screwing it up..... since I used the words virgin and screwing in a sentence, I fully expect Spooly to make a pun.

I agree with Vapor's points, though as a massive fan of the original source material, I was genuinely very surprised when I found the movie actually to be really cool. Rorschach's mask was done very well, why Dr M's penis ended up as the main character I don't understand, but overall it was a good film.
